Reporting methods for gender balance on boards data to Minister

Since our recent article on gender balance on boards data, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality has published an updated version of their document - Gender Pay Gap Information Reporting: Your questions answered (Employers) which includes information on gender balance on boards reporting mechanics.

It identifies the following methods for reporting to the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality:

  • Improving gender balance: the written information on how the in-scope company intends to improve its Board’s gender balance must be reported via the Gender Pay Gap Portal
  • Information about the gender balance of the board, distinguishing between Executive and Non-Executive Directors: this information is to be uploaded to the Gender Pay Gap Portal. This is to be done in conjunction with the company’s Gender Pay Gap Report for the relevant year
  • Selection process for Board members: the documented selection process must be provided to the Minister by sending a copy by email to: genderequality@dcde.gov.ie.
  • If appointment to the Board is made through a vote of shareholders or employees: the company must provide the Minister with the information supplied to voting shareholders/employees by email to: genderequality@dcde.gov.ie.
  • Company’s Corporate Governance statement: a copy of this should also be submitted to the Minister by email to: genderequality@dcde.gov.ie.

Key Takeaway

Boards should act now and ensure that the necessary company information is submitted to the Minister in the correct manner and published on the company’s website by 30 November 2026.
