ALG's 2018 Irish Merger Control Review Published

ALG has just published its 2018 Irish Merger Control Review.  It shows that there was a 36% increase in the number of M&A deals notified to Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in 2018 over 2017.  There are however important changes since 1 January 2019 on the turnover thresholds for "compulsory" notifications and there is also a possible change in regard to so-called "simplified" transactions.

Vincent Power, EU & Competition Partner commenting on the report and the area of merger control said: "Deals are going to be longer and tougher.  While the thresholds for compulsory notifications are rising, the CCPC will still be vigilant on below threshold deals.  Equally, the CCPC is very keen on cracking down on any implementation of a deal before the CCPC clearance has been granted (so-called "gun-jumping") so businesses should plan early and proceed very carefully."

The attached report gives details of trends, identifies sectors at play and explains timelines and how the market is evolving.
